Driving Financial Inclusion for Start-ups and SMEs – Unlocking Investment and Access to Smart Capital

One of the major challenges for start ups and companies willing to invest in innovation is the current credit crunch and the limited access to funding when exploiting traditional channels. Venture capital is often not available, while traditional funding mechanisms most likely require forecasts and in depth business plan evaluations as well as guarantees, that are often an insurmountable barrier especially when it comes to micro and small entrepreneurs. Much research has been conducted recently to introduce more flexible solutions and stimulate the dialogue on innovative ways to overcome this obstacle. This session will look into innovative models of smart access to capital, including the more and more impacting Crowdfunding, further newly established innovative risk funds offered by the diversifying financial actors’ community dedicated to SMEs and will also touch Islamic Finance and its global relevance.

Putting People First – Smart SMEs matching Trends and Talents in the "Fast-Forward-Society"

In a globalized environment in which the creative economy is imposing the ability of adapting to continuous transformative changes, where products and services are conceived as global and mobility of people is a common prerequisite, human capital and talent are the success factors deserving major consideration. Proficiency in managing internationalization, full exploitation of strategic partnerships and innovative design thinking processes to capture the demand drive of modern society is a challenge, (young) people have to be trained for. Risk is not the reward! This session will discuss implications on education and vocational training to tackle the big demands and high expectations of the consumers and to stimulate a paradigm shift towards a competitive knowledge intensive economy by focussing - among others - on the difference between leadership skills for smart entrepreneurs and the ability to simply manage and administer proper business.
